The champion of Queanbeyan-Palerang’s emerging wine region, Contentious Character – Winery, Vineyard and Cellar Door, has been awarded with a commendation for Wineries, Breweries & Distilleries at the reputable Canberra Region Tourism Awards 2019.
Contentious Character has succeeded in building on the Lambert Estate’s reputation for award-winning boutique wines. After 24 years, the original winemakers moved on and the talented and innovative team at Contentious Character moved in, making the place their own with a complete overhaul of the kitchen and restaurant. Since then, they have grown their own grapes to create an impressive range of wines with unique and exciting flavours, all the while serving visitors to a memorable wine tasting and fine dining experience at the Contentious Character cellar door and restaurant. For a local wine and food business that only opened its doors and made their first vintage in 2017, they have achieved a huge amount in two short years.
The Wamboin-based winery is open Wednesdays to Sundays for tours, tastings, sales and dining. Offering a wide range of tempting fresh regional produce, their menu blends traditional Italian flair with contemporary Australian dishes, carefully chosen to complement their wines.
