Queanbeyan District

The future is bright in a smart city

Settled in 1838 and established as a city in 1972, Queanbeyan is known as the town that built Canberra. Queanbeyan’s city name comes from the aboriginal word Quinbean, meaning “clear waters”. Queanbeyan is located in south-east NSW, ideally situated on the ACT/NSW border – only 15 km from Canberra CBD and 7 km from the international airport.
